Scaling with the Support of the US Forest Service
Our climate-beneficial furniture company has received a boost as one of 99 winners of the US Forest Service Wood Innovations Grant program. The grant will support the scaling of our operation over the next two years as we continue to source and process small-diameter (5” - 12” DBH) timber at our facility in Sonoma County. With the help of the US Forest Service, we will increase wood products manufacturing and markets while improving California forests.
From the US Forest Service’s press release: “Many of the funded projects will help reduce hazard trees that fuel catastrophic wildfires as envisioned in the new Forest Service 10 Year Strategy to Confront the Wildfire Crisis. These projects cover activities ranging from the development of district wood heating systems and small-scale sawmill operations in Western states... A complete list of grants is available on the Forest Service Wood Innovations Program Website.”
Our work through this grant program will seek to increase our partnerships with local foresters, arborists, organizations, and landowners, to help us achieve our goal of sourcing, transporting, and milling small-diameter wood that meets our specifications. Presently we are accepting logs from larger fuel load reduction projects that meet local and state timber harvest regulations. If you’re interested in getting logs to us, please contact us for more information.
We are grateful for the Forest Service’s support as we re-establish a mill and value-add wood products facility at Green Valley Farm + Mill.
